Types of inverters

There are many big companies in the world specializing in the production of inverters. To divide inverters, people will divide them into 2 main types: indirect inverters and direct inverters.

Types of inverters

In which, the direct inverter type is used for motors with very high capacity, so it is less common.

As for the indirect inverter type, it is usually used for motors with capacity from 0.25 kW to 700kW. This is the level of capacity used quite a lot in the factory. Therefore, nearly 100% of the inverters used in the factory are of this type.

However, here I will not delve into these two main types of inverters, but I will go into each application of the inverter, specifically going into the indirect inverter type - the type of inverter used a lot. most today.

AC inverter:

Single-phase inverters and 3-phase inverters using AC voltage are widely used in factories. It can be said that more than 90% of inverters are of this type.

DC inverter:

This type of inverter controls the branching of a DC motor. This design of a d.c. motor divides the induction part and the branch circuit.

With this type, the output switches generate a new sine wave for the electric motor's voltage by inputting a series of square waves at different voltages. Inverters of this type usually work with the help of a large capacitor.

Single phase inverter:

Also known as 1-phase to 3-phase inverter.

In order to be more convenient in buying and selling, people often call the inverters abbreviated. For example, a single phase inverter. This is to refer to the type of inverter whose input voltage is only 1 phase (220V) and the output signal is 3 phase 220V. This call is to distinguish it from the type of inverter whose input is 3 phase 380V and output is 3 phase 380V.

3-phase inverter:

When it comes to this type of inverter; By default it will be interpreted as having an input voltage of 380V and an output of 380V. And most inverters today are of this type.

Motor speed control inverter:

As we all know, inverter is a specialized device to control motor speed by changing the frequency of electric current. That is, through frequency regulation, we can adjust the motor speed to change at will in a wide range.

Changing the speed of the motor when using an inverter is also very simple. We just need to adjust the frequency by the inverter, the speed of the motor will change accordingly.

In addition, attaching an inverter to a 3-phase motor also helps to make the motor start softer, helping to protect the electrical system as well as reduce mechanical shock to the motor. The inverter also helps to protect against overload, over voltage and over current during motor operation.

Grid-tie inverter - Solar energy:

Also known as solar inverter. This type of inverter is specialized in the field of solar power generation.

When a solar panel collects energy from the sun, it converts the heat into direct current. However, to use for loads, we must convert this DC current into 220Vac alternating current and connect to the grid.

At this time, people will use grid-tied inverters (or grid-tied inverters) to convert this DC current into alternating current and bring it back to the load for consumption.

The solar power grid will connect to the grid continuously in the morning, prioritizing the use of solar power. If the remaining amount of solar power is left over, it will be pushed to the national grid. On the contrary, at night and on days when there is no sunlight, the system will automatically take electricity from the grid to compensate for the equipment.

The inverter works completely automatically, the whole system will automatically shut off when it is dark and operate when the sun returns.

Low voltage inverter:

Is a type of inverter whose input is 110V, 220V or 380V. It can be said that this is the common name of all types of inverters on the market today.

Medium voltage inverter:

This type of inverter has very large input voltage such as 3-3.3 kV, 4kV, 6-6.6kV, 10 kV, 11 kV. And in Vietnam, the systems using this type of inverter are very few.

Medium voltage inverters are applied in industries such as: paper; metallurgy, cement, petroleum, mining, plastic, rubber.
