BS: The Flat Earth Theory, also known as a belief in a Flat Earth, is pseudoscience which states that: The earth is flat (or at least not spherical), and that humans live on a disc or a large plane. Many variations of these basic beliefs exist, with some people believing in actual discs while others believe that they are part of a much larger planet. Still others believe that there is no solid ground beneath them.

That's what you find on Googling. They get paid to say it

In addition, many other scientists also did not give evidence to prove that the earth is spherical. They slander the flat earth in an educated way. Here is an example:

The idea that the earth is round is a bit counterintuitive from just normal every day life experience. It looks more or less flat from the scale that most people live their daily life on.

The whole thing with gravity is even worse. You think of "down" as a very consistent direction and you sort of feel that everyone's down everywhere should point in the same general direction. You get jokes about Australia being upside down because of that incongruity.

Now most kids learn about the idea that the world is a globe early on in Kindergarten or grade school. Some may have initially some trouble wrapping their head around the whole idea, but most eventually accept it even if they don't quite grasp it.

If you have really bad education this failure of understanding might last until adulthood for a few people. It is the same as with other basic concepts like failure to understand that anything time zero is zero or similar stuff.

Normally that wouldn't be a big problem. you don't need to understand the shape of the world for most every day activities and can be a semi-productive member of society without quite getting it.

That is where the second aspect of the problem rears its head. conspiracy theories.

Conspiracy theories make people feel better about themselves. The idea that you are one of the select few who know more about how the world really works that other people is very enticing. It gives you a sense of self worth and confidence that you might otherwise lack especially if you are too stupid to get how globes work.

So people might want to believe that the moon landing is fake to make themselves feel better about their lot in life.

Having a conspiracy where some shadowy illuminati or reptile people or "the Jew" are in charge also might be more comforting that the reality where nobody really is in charge all that much and there are no grand plans.

Religion also factors into it. If your religion asks you to already deny scientific facts and propaganda driven ideology asks to o deny other facts than it is only a short step to apply that logic to more fundamental facts.

Outright mental illnesses may also be a factor.

The important thing is that almost all people who believe that the earth is flat don't stop there with their beliefs. They usually already had a ton of other nonsense beliefs or acquire them alongside them.

Picture the following: You are a bit dull, never got a good education. Your priest has convinced you that the earth is only 6000 years old and the petroleum industry has convinced you that climate change is a lie and plenty of friends you make online tell you that everything that is wrong with you life is the result fo some conspiracy or other.

You are already primed to not believe any scientist when they say things about the age o the Earth, evolution, CO2 emission and stuff like evidence about how the Holocaust really happened.

You have learned not to trust authorities and to distrust academia and logic and really since you are not that bright you would have to take them on faith not being able to follow their logic.

It is only a small step to apply that logic to other stuff you don't understand like the shape of the earth.

You never understood it when your teacher tried to explain it to you and it never made any sense to you why water would not just pool at the bottom of a globe and you know there are all sorts of conspiracy theories out there.

So you start your own experiments that prove that the world is flat, like taking a level up into an airplane. You might not quite get how either of those work, but your lack of understanding never hurt you when it cam to doubting anthropogenic climate change or dinosaurs having walked the earth.

You have been taught to distrust experts and to trust your own instincts. You have bee taught to dismiss photographs as fake and math that is too hard for you to follow as irrelevant.

So you just believe what makes you feel better.

Having friends who believe the same thing you do or at least share your disbelieve in the official version of how the world work is a huge factor.

It takes a special kind of person who thinks they are the greatest genius ever and comes up with a time cube theory with the entire world telling them they are wrong (or not even wrong).

But if you have peers around you who share your ideology it gets much easier. You feel that hundreds of people can't be all total cranks (never considering the billions who are on the other side of that).

It is easy to convince yourself of nonsense if you are undereducated, stupid and have been taught to believe in other nonsense against ll evidence to the contrary.

For a better understanding of Flat Earth Theory, you need a fact check:

We have been lied to. The earth is flat. It is not a spinning ball hurtling through a vacuum in space, propelled at tens of thousands of miles per hour on its way to oblivion. It’s quite possible that science has lied to us about just about everything else, why should we believe it when they say that we are traveling through space and life is carbon based? Why do we need all these lies in order for man to believe he has any purpose at all? Perhaps there is something we are not meant to know and someone doesn’t want us to know? What would you do if you knew what was on or under Planet Earth?
